CHAPTER FOUR

   “Well class, that’s all the time we have today. Remember your exams are coming up in a couple months and I would like all of you to be fully prepared. I also want all of your papers, which, might I add, is 40% of your final mark, on my desk by five o’clock tomorrow afternoon.” Marissa’s professor said hurriedly, trying to get in everything that she had to say before the bottleneck at the door had a chance to occur where her voice would be completely drowned out by her students’ various conversations.

   “Trinity you want to go for some lunch now?” Marissa asked.

   “Amm…Ok but I need to talk to Pollard about something for my paper. I’ll meet you in the cafeteria. Ok?”

   “Alright cool, see you there” Marissa said as she went to join the usual bottleneck at the door of the auditorium.

   It had taken Marissa almost five full minutes before she was able to breathe the fresh air, and she hurriedly tried to make her way to the cafeteria avoiding as much human contact as possible along the way.

   “Hey Marissa… wait a sec!”

   As she turned around she almost wished she hadn’t, because there Dylan Marshall was running towards her and from the looks of things he had been outside waiting for her to come out. It had been four days since she last saw him at the party on Saturday night.

   “You know I never got your answer on if you would like to dance or not. So how about going out Saturday night to the movies and then to a party after?” Dylan said with his usual cockiness.

   “I thought I made it clear to you that I didn’t want to dance with you and I have no intentions of changing my mind,” Marissa replied viciously.

   “Ouch! Are you always this harsh?”

   “No…I can be worse, this is my nice side,” Marissa hoped that the sound of her voice would give Dylan the idea that she wasn’t interested and that she wanted to be left alone. But when he opened his mouth again she thought he either didn’t hear the coldness in her voice or chose to ignore it.

   “Ok…well if you don’t want to dance how about just the movie?” Dylan gave his most sexy smile possible. This smile would normally have the girls at his feet begging for him to notice them, but there was something different about Marissa, it didn’t have any effect on her what so ever.

   “Hey. My name is Trinity…I’m Marissa’s best friend,” Trinity had seen the desperation in Marissa’s eyes to be rescued from Dylan, so she had decided to step in and give Marissa a chance to escape, it would also give her a chance to talk with Mr. Sexy himself.

   Marissa saw her opportunity and hurried off hoping that he would not see when she had turned away to leave.

   “Umm…nice to meet you…Could you please excuse me for a minute?” He said distractedly and hurried off after Marissa.

   That was the first time any guy had simply ignored her and gone after Marissa, it was normally the other way around, well actually it was the second time, but Tristan only had eyes for Marissa even if there were a hundred other supermodels in front him.

   “Marissa…hey Marissa…wait up...you never gave me your answer.”

   “I thought it was clear what my answer was,” Marissa told him still walking away from him as quickly as possible.

   “Well yeah it was but…I don’t give up that easily…do you know how beautiful your eyes are…actually that’s what caught my attention…your eyes,” Dylan told her, jogging to keep up with her pace.

   “What?!?” Marissa said confused, she stopped for a moment and looked at him; Dylan saw this and seized his opportunity and blocked her path preventing her from running off again.

   “Ok…let me put it better, I think you’re really beautiful…and I’m sorry about the party if I touched a nerve, but I didn’t know until one of my friends told me…and I just want to prove to you that…”

   “Umm…excuse me…I don’t think that Marissa wants to go out with you…she doesn’t seem interested, so would you do me the pleasure and just leave her alone? Or do I have to bust in your face to prove to you how serious I am?”

   Marissa didn’t know this guy’s name but she had seen him in most of her classes, he was quiet, kept to himself, and did what was expected of him in the classes, nothing more nothing less. She had no idea why he stepped in for her in this battle between her and the ever cocky Dylan.

   “You wanna fight me?” Dylan said with a hint of surprise in his voice.

   “Why? You think that just because you’re some hot shot guy on campus that I’m not too scared to set you straight?” the mysterious boy replied menacingly.

   There was something in this guy’s voice that told Dylan that if he didn’t want to ruin his reputation, he best back off now before it was too late.

   “Ok dude, sorry about that.” Dylan said while looking at the mystery guy, turning to Marissa he said, “I’ll call you later about that movie.” With that he stalked off in his usual cocky manner down the tree-lined path outside the Economics building.

   “Amm…”

   “Don’t worry about it. I’ll see you in class.” The mystery guy told Marissa before she even had the chance to say thanks or even to find out what his name was.

   And with that he walked away leaving Marissa wondering who he was, but there was something about him that sparked some interest and some foreign feeling she hadn’t felt in a while.

   “Who was that?” Trinity asked curiously.

   Marissa was so entranced by the mystery guy’s presence that she didn’t even hear Trinity come up beside her.

   “I have no idea…You ready to go lunch?”

   “He caught your eye didn’t he?”

   “What? No!!”

   “Yes…he did…I could see it in your eyes…you know what his name is?”

   “Nope…but I sure would like to find out.” Marissa said a bit too loudly. It wasn’t meant for Trinity to hear.

   “See…told you he caught your interest…can’t say I blame you though…he does have a cute ass…he could definitely give Dylan a run for his money in that department.”

   “What are you talking about?” Marissa said while breaking into a grin.

   “I’m not the only who’s watching him walking away.”

   “Look man whatever…you ready for lunch?” Marissa asked while still looking in her mystery guy’s direction still smiling.

   “Number three” Trinity thought to herself, while she and Marissa walked off in the direction of the cafeteria with a cool breeze blowing through the trees and across the campus.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
   “Hey guys over here,” Rain shouted, waving to her friends across the noisy cafeteria, “what’s up?” she asked them when they had reached the table that she was sitting at.
   “Well, Rissa just got asked out by Dylan and some guy threatened to beat him up if he ever saw him annoying her again. Cool, huh?” Trinity said excitedly.
   “Jeez Trin, can’t you ever keep quiet for once?” Marissa said, sounding pretty annoyed, so Rain decided not to go much deeper into the topic. She knew that Trinity would tell her everything that happened and in detail, when the two of them were alone.
   “So, how was class?” Rain asked Trinity and Marissa, deciding that changing the topic would be the best if she didn’t want her two best friends to start arguing.
   The girls talked about their day so far, about upcoming parties and about the going ons of their lives and as usual, Marissa was quiet with nothing much to say.
